More about Kroger and ways to save!
What is Kroger?
Kroger marketplace stores are relatively new entries into the supermarket world, with the first store only opening in 2004 in Columbus Ohio. There are just over 180 Kroger supermarkets across the US, offering multiple departments and usually including a Fred Meyer Jewelers, a bank, a Starbucks and a Donatos Pizza.
Despite the recent introduction of the store itself, the company behind it is actually one of the longest-running in America. The Kroger company was established by Bernard Kroger in 1883, and the company oversees nearly 3,000 stores in the US. The Kroger company is the largest supermarket by revenue in the US (when all brands are included) and the fifth-largest retailer in the world.
Whether you’re visiting your local Kroger store, or ordering online for delivery, you can save dollars with every purchase if you use promotional codes or printed coupons, letting you buy the things you need for less.

If you’re shopping in-store, make sure you pay using the Kroger Pay app. All you need to do is download the app at home and enter your credit or debit card details. Then you can leave the card at home and pay contactless using your phone by scanning the QR code.
It’s fast, secure and convenient and if you link up your Kroger REWARDS credit or debit card you can earn 2% cashback on selected brands and an extra 50% in fuel points.
Kroger Rewards Debit Card
The Kroger Rewards Debit Card is a great way to save and earn rewards as you shop. It’s simply linked to your existing checking account, so there’s no need to apply or provide ID. Then every time you use it to pay for your groceries, you can enjoy a 2% discount on Quality Brands, and earn 50% more fuel points that you can use at the Kroger gas pumps. Just use it as you would any other card, and the funds will be taken from your checking or savings account in 1-5 business days.
Kroger Credit Card
Apply for the Kroger Credit Card and you can make huge savings. It’s a World MasterCard that you’ll need to apply for as you would any other credit card, so it will depend on your credit score whether you’re successful. If you are, then you can earn points every time you use the card.
Earn 1 point for every $1 you spend anywhere that accepts MasterCard payments. You’ll earn 2 points for every $1 spent in a Kroger-owned store (so not just Kroger Marketplaces but any store under the Kroger Company umbrella). The only exception is Kroger Fuel Centers. And you’ll also earn 3 points per $1 spent on Own Brand Products at any Kroger-owned store. Every 1,000 points can be redeemed for $5 in free groceries, and there’s no annual fee. Plus, if you redeem 100 points at a Kroger Fuel Center you’ll enjoy an additional 25 cents off every gallon of fuel you buy for an entire year. The potential savings are huge!
Kroger Fuel Points
Pick up a Kroger’s Shopping Card and every time you shop at Kroger you’ll earn Fuel Points. You’ll get 1 fuel point for every $1 you spend, and $2 for every gift card you buy in store (whether for Kroger or any other store). You can also get 50 Fuel Points when you pick up a qualifying prescription in a Kroger marketplace store. You can then redeem your Fuel Points for money off at the gas pump, so you save money on gas as you buy your normal groceries.
Depending on how close you are to a Kroger store, you can get your groceries delivered to your door. Alternatively, you can also get larger items shipped further afield, if you’re ordering homewares or electrical. When you’re on the Kroger website, simply choose ‘Delivery’ for your groceries or ‘Ship’ if you want to order non-perishable items and you can place an order. Same-day grocery delivery is sometimes available.
You can order a mix of platters, alongside chips, salads and cookies to please every palate at your party. Or, go for the impressive showstopper with a giant sub. Starting at 3ft long and available in 3 ft increments, these amazing sandwiches are ideal for larger meetings. A 6-foot sub should feed 20-25 people, as a rough guide, and will cost around $100.
Refunds, Returns and Exchanges
Any fresh items bought from Kroger can be returned for a full refund or a replacement if they don’t meet normal freshness standards. Other items can also be returned to the store for a refund – contact Kroger for more information depending on the product and the shipping method as the policy varies.
In store, you can pay for your groceries and other items using cash, your credit or your debit card. You can also pay using Kroger Pay, or with a Kroger Rewards Credit or Debit card. Gift cards are accepted too.
The same options apply when paying online, except for cash.
Kroger’s website has all the necessary software to ensure it is secure to use. That means your personal details are kept safe and you can shop without fear of your card details being stolen.
If you do notice a payment on your credit or debit card statement from Kroger that you don’t recognize, you should contact the bank or credit card company. Kroger takes all matters of fraud seriously and if you have unusual activity on your rewards cards, they will offer to close them immediately while it is investigated.
Using Promo Codes and Coupons
Kroger accepts a number of printed and digital coupons when you’re shopping in-store or online. You can save on various products either with dollar-off coupons, or percentage savings, or multibuy offers.
Make sure you check for the latest coupons before you buy. Printed coupons can be handed to a cashier, or you can display your digital coupons on your smartphone to be scanned. If you’re shopping online, there’s a space in the cart where you can enter any codes you have.

How do you order groceries online from Kroger?
It’s easy to order your groceries online and get them delivered straight to your door. Simply visit the Kroger website and you’ll find a dropdown that will normally default to ‘Pickup’. Change this to ‘Deliver’. Don’t choose ‘Ship’ as that is intended for furniture and bulkier items. Once you’ve chosen ‘Deliver’ just add items to your cart as you normally would, and then pay. Items can sometimes be delivered on the same day but usually you can also book a timeslot for delivery in the coming days.
Can Kroger sell wine on Sundays?
Limitations on when Kruger can sell alcohol vary by state. Most stores will allow wine to be purchased on a Sunday but only after a certain time, usually around midday. Wine sales will normally end on a Saturday at around 11pm to leave the Sunday morning time free. If you want alcohol, plan ahead if you’re in one of the states that limit sales at these times.
How do Kroger Fuel Points work?
To use Kroger Fuel Points you’ll need to pick up a Shopper’s Card. Then, every time you spend money at Kroger or a Kroger-owned store, you can earn 1 Fuel Point for every $1 you spend. You can also earn double points when buying gift cards and, occasionally, 4x points on selected ranges.
Fuel Points can then be redeemed at any Kroger Fuel Center against the cost of your gas.
When does Kroger close?
Kroger is open most days of the year. Christmas Day is closed for all Kroger stores and some will also close on Easter Sunday. Other holidays, including Christmas Eve, the store will be open for those last minute purchases.
In terms of the store opening hours, check your local store as they can vary but the stores are normally open 6am until midnight. Pharmacy opening hours within the store can also vary, as they usually don’t open at the same time as the rest of the store.
Who makes Kroger products?
Kroger’s own brand products are sometimes manufactured by the company themselves, but some of the privately-owned brands are outsourced to other food manufacturers who sell exclusively to Kroger stores. Different items are produced by specialists.
Can I return a Kroger product without a receipt?
When you return a product to a Kroger store, you will need a receipt to get an exchange or refund. If you don’t have a receipt, the cashier may be able to look it up for you on the Kroger system but if they cannot find it you may not be entitled to your refund. You should always keep your receipt to hand in case something goes wrong with your product.
Does Kroger sill do Free Friday?
On some occasions, Kroger will still run its Free Friday promotion. If you sign up to receive coupons and discount codes, on selected Fridays you’ll receive a coupon to redeem against a free product. This promotion used to run on a weekly basis but is now ad hoc. Keep an eye on the Kruger website and your emails for more information on when Free Friday products may be available.
Always ensure you’re checking your emails from Kruger before you make any purchase as you may have a coupon that you can redeem to bring down the total cost of your grocery shop, or a discount code to make delivery cheaper.
Do you tip Kroger delivery drivers?
When your groceries are delivered by a Kruger driver, you do not need to tip them but it is accepted if you wish to. There is no function to add a tip to your order if you’re paying by card, but you can tip in cash when your food is delivered if you want to.
